Al Aqsa Project

During the holy month of Ramadan, Israeli police have attacked and arrested Palestinian worshippers in a violent raid on the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Masjid Al Aqsa is at the heart of every Muslim. It represents a deep-rooted connection and importance to Muslims everywhere.

Sadly, since 2014, Masjid Al-Aqsa and the communities entrusted with looking after it have become increasingly vulnerable and at huge risk due to increased raids and attacks. In addition to this, these communities are facing increased hardships with the cost of daily living and need your on-going support.

Join our Blessed Roots Campaign!

Donate now to help preserve, support and sustain the communities which protect and keep this masjid filled with the daily recitation of the Holy Qur’an. Your donation will help bring thousands of worshippers come together to perform a khatam of the Holy Qur’an in the blessed masjid. Each khatam is offered with a duaa to keep Al-Aqsa safe. Our Waqf will also help support local communities in accessing Zakat funds for their homes, livelihoods and futures.

Al Aqsa

"Go and pray there. If you cannot visit it and pray there, then send some oil to be used in the lamps, for whoever does that is like one who goes there." (Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him).

Al Aqsa Mosque stands in the Old City of Jerusalem. It is the third holiest site in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) travelled here on his miraculous night journey to heaven, and that single event cemented this location as one of the most sacred places on earth for Muslims everywhere. The Al Aqsa Mosque compound covers 35 acres and carries the Arabic name Al Haram al Sharif, the Noble Sanctuary. Inside the compound you find the silver-domed Qibli prayer hall, the golden Dome of the Rock, ancient minarets, and gates that have stood through centuries of prayers, traditions, and stories.

One prayer here holds the weight of 500 offered anywhere else. Every Friday prayers fill the compound with hundreds of thousands of Muslim worshippers. During the holy month of Ramadan, the site overflows with devotion. This is more than a mosque. It is the spiritual centre of Jerusalem for the entire ummah.

Why Al Aqsa Matters for Muslims

The sanctity of Al Masjid Al Aqsa in Islam is like no other. The night journey was documented by the Holy Quran. The Prophet (pbuh) ascended to heaven from here. All Muslims have this connection within them.

It is located in the eastern part of Jerusalem's Old City. Also known as the Temple Mount it is a holy site of worship and pilgrimage for all Muslims. It is governed by Jerusalem Waqf under the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic affairs which also controls entry into the site via the Gates.

Its construction dates back through centuries. From the Umayyad era the original structure was erected and was devastated by earthquakes several times and each time it was rebuilt by successive Caliphates. The building now present is an 11th century Fatimid rebuilding and Saladin erected the well known minbar in 1187 on recapturing Jerusalem. The very walls of this building are infused with layer upon layer of Islamic heritage; every building, every structure tells a story over more than 1000 years.

It has capacity for more than 400,000 worshipers. All Christian, Muslims and Palestinians revere Jerusalem for it is considered a city with profound religious significance. The sanctity of Al Aqsa is that it is one of the only three mosques designated in Islamic tradition for pilgrimage that reaps special spiritual rewards and thus it is irreplaceable.

But it is not buildings that keep sites alive, people do; The daily worshipper, the reciter of Holy Quran filling the halls with His word, the caretaker maintaining the compound year after year; these families struggle financially in occupied East Jerusalem and contributions for Al Quds support them directly.

How Your Donation Helps

Through Al Mustafa Canada your support to the Al Aqsa project accomplishes three key areas of impact:

One, you finance organized Quran recitation within the Al Aqsa Mosque premises. This enables hundreds of worshipper's from the Muslim community to complete a full Khatam of the Holy Quran within the premises. Once the Khatam concludes the congregation recites a collective dua asking Allah for the protection of the place and all its occupants. These events multiply in magnitude during the month of Ramadan with throngs of individuals participating from within the mosque halls to the courtyard.

Two, through direct Zakat distribution your funds reach Palestinian families residing in East Jerusalem. The funds provide shelter, income and future stability for the families amidst a climate of increasing expenditures and limited access to resources. It provides real cash for real households.

Three, you are building a sustainable and legacy-building form of giving to one of the most revered places in Islam. Your investment will carry on its impact through a waqf that will last for years.

What Is the Waqfyyat Al-Mustafa?

Waqfyyat Al-Mustafa runs as Al Mustafa Canada's dedicated endowment for Al Aqsa Mosque. Think of it as a permanent bridge between Canadian donors and the people who keep this mosque alive.

Your waqf donation enters a dedicated fund. That fund covers Quran recitation programs, Zakat allocations for local Palestinian families, and the operational costs tied to spiritual activity within the compound. The structure ensures your contribution keeps generating benefit long after the initial gift.

This is sadaqah jariyah at its most tangible. You build something that lasts. A reciter reads the Quran inside Al Aqsa because you gave. A family in Jerusalem pays rent this month because of your Zakat. No worldly investment delivers that kind of return.

Donate today and join something bigger than any single lifetime.

What is the Waqfiyyat Al Mustafa project?

We formally launched ‘Waqfiyyat Al Mustafa’ with The Royal Hashemite Court, Jordan on 11 December 2022. His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein and Palestinian President Mr. Mahmoud Abbas formally signed the Al Mustafa Waqfiyyat documents, which were initiated in September 2022.

The Waqfiyyat project is inspired from our unshakeable belief in the solemn duty to protect and defend Jerusalem and the Blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. Through the waqf, and with the generous help of our donors, 1000’s of Muslims will collectively read the Qur’an in its entirety in Al-Aqsa, and in the Blessed Dome of the Rock Mosque. Vulnerable families living in the local area of Al-Quds will also be supported through Zakat donations.

Why did we launch the Waqfiyyat Al Mustafa project?

The goal of Waqfiyyat Al-Mustafa for Khatm Al-Qur’an in Al-Aqsa Mosque is to reflect the care Muslims have for the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. It is a message to all who think that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is no longer deeply-rooted in our hearts and minds.

It also aims to reap the blessings of reading the Qur’an in its entirety in Al-Aqsa Mosque continuously, repeatedly, and permanently, and to increase the prevalence of Muslims in Al-Haram Al-Sharif regardless of political conflicts.

Who is the supervising authority of the Waqfiyyat project?

The supervising authority is the Waqf’s Council whose members include legal entities such as the Jerusalem Awqaf Council, the Hashemite Fund for the Restoration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock as well as the Administration of the Jerusalem Awqaf & the Affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Why do Muslims consider Al Aqsa Mosque one of the holiest sites in Islam?

Al Aqsa Mosque situated in the Old City of Jerusalem and marks the location of the Prophet Muhammad's night journey to heaven. A single prayer here carries the reward of 500 prayers elsewhere, and it ranks among only three mosques where pilgrimage holds special significance in Islam.
